Rally! #29 Left About Turn

Learning your Rally signs and struggling with the "Left About Turn"? Here's a break down of how I teach the sign. Remember that the about turn will mean that you end facing the opposite direction from where you started.

Because the early Rally courses involve having your dog leashed, I include the leash management in initially teaching.

  1. Cue your right finish from heel position.

If you don't have a right finish cue yet, just keep in mind that its just a circle around you! (My cue is "Circle")

2. Put your leash in your right hand.

While your dog starts to make the move around you, switch your leash from left hand to right hand.

3. Leash is in right hand!

Your dog is moving to your right side, you will be moving to your left side soon.

4. Turn to your left, where your dog just was.

5. Switch leash hands again behind your back!

6. Ta-da!

You will be facing the opposite direction from what you started!

It can start slowly, and as you gain confidence in the maneuver you will be able to move more quickly.
